I have an early 1976 w123 240D Just purchased as a restoration. Ignition switch has steel wire (broken) which needs to be pulled to be able to remove key. I have sent away for pencil type glow plugs as the series old type not working. I have installed a solonoid while waiting and a ballast resistor to reduce to 9 volts.
Initially the cooling fan was coming on when the ignition switch was turned to start. Some fiddling about with the ecu and sam and copious amounts of electrical contact spray sorted the cooling fan. I am now left with the car not cranking. I have checked the starting relay and it is working as it should. The starting fuse is 20amp and is not blown.

Ignition switch replacement. Due to intermittent starting issues I replaced the ignition switch. This board was a lot of help with that. I actually did it twice because I didn't swap out the plastic piece that controls the shifter. I only read directions when I have to.
